The League of Women Voters of New York State (League) is a not-for-profit corporation under section 501 ( c ) ( 4) of the Internal Revenue Code, committed to the active and informed participation of individuals in government and governmental institutions. It works to inform the electorate of races and issues facing them by the hosting of candidate forums, publication of voters’ guides and sponsorship of public forums on a range of public policy issues. It is nonpartisan, in that it does not support candidates; but it does advocate for legislation in accordance with its positions. Contributions to the League are not tax deductible under the Internal Revenue Code.
Contribution to the General Operating Fund
Donations that are not otherwise restricted go into the general operating fund to support ongoing League activities. These donations enable it to maintain and expand the level of programs and services made available to local Leagues and the public at large.
Contribution to Specific Projects
The League is able to sponsor special projects as the result of generous monetary funding and provision of in-kind services. Ongoing support enables it to sponsor a range of youth programs and to publish League brochures for distribution to the public. The League welcomes donations of goods and services – particularly in the areas of technology and public relations. Please contact the League for more information.
Membership in the 1919 Society
Individuals who remember the League in their wills automatically become members of the 1919 Society, upon notification of the League that they have included it in their wills.
Beginning in July, 2010, the League will publicly acknowledge all contributors absent individual requests for anonymity.
