The state League, in coordination with NYPIRG, Common Cause and Citizens Union, has received funding to organize an educational forum in Albany on government reform issues. The gubernatorial candidates and current legislative leaders will be invited to respond to questions on their support for reform efforts in the area of campaign finance, redistricting, election law (absentee ballot process, voting machines) and ethics. The event will include free busing from around the state to Albany to encourage people to attend. The goal is to obtain at least 150 organizations to support the event ? and approximately 300 people to attend. We will be sending you more information soon to help rally our members ? but spread the word and get people excited. We need to show the politicians that people want a change in Albany! Call me if you have questions. Thanks! As you all have heard, we are organizing an important event in Albany on May 5th to hear from the political leaders on how they will reform Albany. We need to get League members, friends, neighbors and co-workers to come join us on this day. We will have free buses from different parts of the state - and a free lunch for attendees. We have sent out an electronic flyer to members with email addresses. I have attached a copy of the flyer - please pass out at membership meetings, board meetings, post around town, etc. We need to show these leaders that New Yorkers are angry and want action. The flyer is also available on our website. The flyer has a sign up form at the bottom - just email, fax or send it back so we know who is coming. Or email Shannan in the League office at May5 at lwvny.org and tell her you want to sign up. The locations for the buses will be determined by the number of people from the locations - so sign up now to ensure a bus from your area! This is open to anyone - participants do not have to be League members! Come make a difference! I have attached a report form to be completed after your consensus meetings. The completed report is to be returned to the state League office by June 1st. Also, a reminder that local Leagues should NOT publish the results of their consensus meetings in their bulletins. Until the state League adopts a statewide position, the results from the consensus should remain unpublished. If you have any questions, please give me a call. Thanks for your help.
