MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF LWVNYS

When women finally won the right to vote in 1920, the League was formed to help provide education about the
political process and enable informed participation in government. Since then, we've broadened our mission to make democracy work for all citizens by encouraging us to learn about the issues important to us and to register and vote
so our voices will be heard.

We are the most respected organization in New York State. From this website you can:

ADVOCATE using our Citizens Action Toolkit, contact your elected officials, find out information on bills.

EDUCATE yourself on issues and learn about our statewide studies. The League of Women Voters of
New York State is a non-partisan, grassroots, volunteer organization with 54 local Leagues throughout the State.
Our members at the local, state and national levels are engaged in many activities to further our mission. These
include sponsoring candidate forums, publishing voters guides, conducting voter registration drives, holding public forums on issues important to our communities, and advocating on issues including schools, open government,
election reform, campaign finance reform, health, the environment, and civil liberties.

PARTICIPATE - Membership in the League of Women Voters of New York State is open to all New York State
citizens of voting age, male or female. We welcome your membership. League members can participate as much
or as little as they desire. Whether you join at the local, state or national level, you are automatically a member of all
three (if there is a local League near you.) We will gladly put you in touch with your local League, if there is one.

League members are some of the finest people you will ever meet. If you want to meet interesting people and learn
more about your community, join the League. I can truthfully say that joining the League of Women Voters is the best
thing that ever happened to me. I encourage you to join us and find out for yourself!
