Diversity - Equity - Inclusion - Access

It is the belief of LWVUS and the members of LWVNY that DEI&A are basic core values to be applied to the work of defending democracy. In fact, it is held as essential to incorporate these principles in our participation and governance of our country in order to allow for a truly representative democracy to exist. Thus, we stand committed to making the organizational changes that will allow us to see our communities through the lens of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access and to be authentic in our engagements.

In 2020, the League of Women Voters elevated their position on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to be equal to their nonpartisan position. This means that everything that is done by the League needs to be viewed equally through a nonpartisan lens and a DEI lens.

Our Policy – This League is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging for all people. The League is an organization that respects and values the cultural richness of our community and our members. The collective sum of our individual differences and life experiences represents not only our culture, but our reputation and the organization’s mission and achievements as well. Discrimination or harassment of any kind will not be accepted within the League, including but not limited to race, socio-economic status, age, ability status, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, gender identity, or marital status.
